THE SAFE HOUSE PROGRAM

NOW Canada Society operates 4 safe homes within the City of Kelowna.

NOW has 2 homes in our 1st stage of housing with a total of 8 beds.  Participants are required to have a minimum of 5 days without substance use.  These homes provide structure, accountability, and consistency to women early in recovery.  Both of these houses are staffed from 8:00pm to 7:00am nightly and for mandatory dinners 4 nights per week.  Both houses provide support and guidance, ensure that expectations are being followed (i.e. curfew), and teach basic life skills (i.e. cooking, cleaning, etc.) when necessary.

NOW has 2 homes in our 2nd stage of housing with a total of 8 beds.  To be eligible, Participants will have a minimum of 4 months without substance use, proven program compliance in both the house and class, consistently demonstrates appropriate attitudes/behaviors, and have the necessary life skills.  Participants who have not attended Essentials will be considered based on a solid program of recovery.  Participants in this home must be involved in employment, education, and other community programs or volunteering. Although there is minimal staff supervision, less structure and fewer rules, participants are still required to comply with drug screens and weekly meetings with their support workers.

NOW also offers Follow-Care Apartments in special circumstances.  This is for Participants who have a minimum of 8 months without substance use, a solid program of recovery and attend school, work or programming full time.  Although there is no staff supervision, less structure and fewer rules, participants are still required to comply with drug screens and weekly meetings with their support worker.  Once participants have approximately ten months without substance use and have demonstrated living a healthy life style they may be eligible to apply for a low-income apartment.
